The Times Editorial Board, “Los Angeles’ homelessness crisis is a national disgrace”, Los Angeles Times
Fact: “Over the last six years, the rent for a studio apartment in Los Angeles has climbed 92%, according to UCLA law professor emeritus Gary Blasi, so that even people who have jobs can find themselves living on the streets after a rent spike or an unexpected crisis.”
Opinion: “Skid row is — and long has been — a national disgrace, a grim reminder of man’s ability to turn his back on his fellow man. ”
Supported Claim: “To your credit, to all of our credit, the citizens of this city and this county voted in November 2016 and again in March 2017 to raise our own taxes to fund an enormous multibillion-dollar, 10-year program of housing and social services for the homeless. As a result, Los Angeles now has its best chance in decades to combat homelessness…”

Today assigned for homework, was to find an news piece that I’m interested in. The news piece I chose to read was about the homelessness issue in Los Angeles. The writers opinion of this crisis, is that it is a national disgrace. I thoroughly agree with this writer. The fact that we as humans can allow skid row to exist and turn or backs to the homeless, who are people too, asking for out help, is horrible. When we think of homeless people, we think that most of them have mental illness or drug addicts, but the reality is most of them are people who came from other states/countries looking for a better place to live. They couldn’t afford it so they ended up on the streets living in a tent. The news article quoted, ” In America, housing is a commodity. If you can afford it, you have it; if you can’t, you don’t.” This is a statement that rings true to not Los Angeles, but other highly populated states as well. I am ashamed of our actions/opinions towards the homeless and I am part of the problem as well.

I consider myself to be an obliger because I tend to struggle with completing assignments for my well being, but when someone is depending on me or my grade and how I do it, I do it quickly and efficiently. I usually put other peoples expectations above my own and have trouble being inner driven. I will excel in this class and school in general by having someone hold me accountable to my deadlines. I might try to join a class with a friend because my friends always motivate me. I’ll start doing homework and studying with other people. Teamwork assignments are the ones I usually thrive in. I will be working on thriving in personal assignments.
According to Mary Papenfuss, scientists are concerned that the die-off of starfish is so severe that it could be the largest disease epidemic observed in wild marine animals. They believe that the increasingly warm water caused by global warming is the reason for the starfishes rapid death. The warm water is making marine creatures more susceptible to the sickness that already existed down under. Researchers say, the disease is causing creatures to merely fall apart and leave disconnected limbs scattered around the marine ecosystem. Starfish that are living close to the shore are more likely to die faster due to the heat being more prevalent in that area. The declining number of starfish is only the start of an ecological collapse as sea stars are the sea creatures who eat sea urchins. Now that starfish are no longer in their way, sea urchins are taking this opportunity to consume all the kelp and ruining the kelp forest ecosystem. If we were to compare the kelp problem to our land, it would be very similar to us completely cutting down an entire forest.
Answer: According to Alex Reid, what are the benefits of doing an online blog for a writing class? What are your feelings about keeping a blog, good or bad?
This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.
You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.
Why do this?
The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.
To help you get started, here are a few questions:
You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.
Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.
When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
